Marc Mezvinsky, Chelsea Clinton to Wed July 31 in Rhinebeck, New York

Susan Braun
Old or young, Democrat or Republican - most of us can work up some enthusiasm for the child of a former president getting married. Bill and Hillary Clinton's only child, Chelsea, plans to marry investment banker boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky on July 31, 2010.

Chelsea's History

If you're over 30, you probably remember seeing Chelsea going through her teenage years during the presidency of her dad, Bill Clinton. Chelsea has seemingly emerged from her youthful awkward stage (captured by TV cameras and newspaper photographers in a way most of us are mercifully spared) to become a lovely and successful young woman of 30, a graduate student at Columbia University.

Marc Mezvinsky

What about Chelsea's fiance? Mezvinsky, 32, is an investment banker with Goldman Sachs. His dad, Edward Mezvinsky, is a former Iowa congressman and is a convicted felon. A string of fraudulent business deals landed Edward in prison in 2003 (let's hope the apple fell far from the tree, for Chelsea's sake). Marc's mom, Marjorie Margolies Mezvinsky, is a former NBC reporter and a former congresswoman. Marc and Chelsea have dated since 2005.

Where will the wedding be held?

Chelsea and Marc will exchange vows at the historic Astor Courts Estate, former home of John Jacob Astor, who died aboard the Titanic in 1912. Astor Courts Estate is located in Rhinebeck, New York.

Wedding Guests, Dress, and Gossip

While wedding details remain top-secret, speculation runs rampant. 400 guests are expected for the nuptials. Will President Obama and his family attend? No word yet on that. One couple who won't be attending: recently disgraced VP to Clinton, Al Gore and former wife, Tipper.

Dress details have not been revealed either, although Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta are heavy favorites to design the gown.

Most mothers of the bride, particularly those with a single child, could relate to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who recently told Polish television of the wedding: "It is truly the most important thing in my life right now."

Thanks for the comments, all! Pat, I looked into your assertion, and it's true Chelsea went to Stanford for her undergrad degree. She's now attending Columbia for her master's.

  • Pat Jameson 7/8/2010

She went to Stanford, not Columbia.
