Chelsea Clinton's Over Elaborate Wedding
Is it Right for Someone in Politics to Be Spending This Amount of Money
Obviously they wanted their daughter to have a fabulous wedding, but was this CHELSEA'S wedding or BILL AND HILLARY'S wedding?
With all the Vera Wang and Oscar De La Renta outfits, and then the cost of the flowers - a cool $500,000, you begin to wonder what the "not so wealthy" in the USA think of this lavish spending spree.
With her involvement in so many political areas as First Lady, Senator and now Secretary Of State, and the unveiling of the Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative, plus her support for the bailout of the US Economy in 2009, you would think that Hillary Clinton might appreciate the plight of the United States and it's people.
Fact is though, during her campaign for re-election as Senator in 2006, Hillary spent $36 million, far more than any other candidate.
It seems that money is not as important to Hillary as winning and being seen to be as good as anyone else on the celebrity and political circuit.
The cost of the "wedding of the century" at least according to cost has been estimated at between $2 million to $5 million according to MSNBC.
That makes it far more expensive than the wedding of the last century, between Prince Charles and Dianna Spencer, and far more lavish as well.
The air conditioned tents alone cost $600,000 to rent. That's about 10 years salary for the average American worker.
Catering was $750,000 and Flowers $500,000, which if you look at it for each of the 400 guests at the wedding, that's a cost of $1,875 in food and $1,250 in flowers per guest! And that doesn't even include place settings...
I am left wondering what $1,250 worth of flowers looks like, and just what food you might serve that costs $1,875 a head! I can't even begin to imagine.
I hate to say this, but when you look at all the starving people in the USA, and all the people that are out of work and barely keeping their heads above water, it seems rather wrong for someone in the government to be spending vast amounts of money on an event like a wedding, which would have been just as nice I am sure if it cost $500,000.
I am sure this lavish affair will do much to lower the opinion of The Clintons in the eyes of many working class Americans, whereas a less expensive wedding and a donation to a good cause would probably have had the opposite effect.
I am sure that there will be a number of people who will agree with me on this, and almost certainly a lot who will also disagree as well. You DON'T have to be a member of Associated Content to leave a comment, so please, let everybody hear what you have to say.

Post a CommentCrazy amount of money to waste, especially given the statistics that it could all end in divorce in a few years anyway. I never understood spending fortunes on weddings.
I think it is stupid to spend so much money on a wedding!
Me, I had just a country style wedding, and it was very nice.
I can't believe the cost of ANYTHING these days. I have to say one thing about Chelsea's wedding though. She looked VERY happy.
I don't get spending so much money on a wedding but I guess if they have it, it is their right.
And if you compare 1981 prices with today's, you may find that Charles and Di's wedding ended up costing MORE, and THAT WAS a state wedding, paid for with government money as the royal family are all gov't employees. Don't make us come over there and start dumping tea!
Tony, you have NO sources here! First of all, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported here that the wedding costs did not pass six figures. The "estimates" that have been flying about for weeks, were guesses, not facts. And I do not begrudge her a Vera Wang dress, she looked gorgeous in a tasteful manner. The reports of people like Oprah and Streisand as guests were wrong as well. So, unless you have the actual bills, you don't know what they spent. Don't believe everything you hear in the media. And I agree with prue, an only child, a daughter -- mother's start planning that wedding the minute the doctor says "It's a girl!"
she is important, you know
It is their money!
And yes, the Clintons do a hell of a lot of humanitarian work, so I can't really begrudge them their once in a lifetime wedding for their only child. I know if my parents had it, they probably would do the same thing.
