Chemical-Free Weed Killer for the Environmentally-Friendly

Patty Kay
I love working in my yard, but I hate all the weeds. To use harsh chemicals is worse yet, so I search around and try my own stuff until I find some quick alternatives that actually work.

What I have found is this; boiling water with sea salt will rid weeds effectively. A powerful little tool, yes but be careful not to spill into the lawn, because it will wipe out the grass pretty good as well.

I have saved a plastic one gallon ice cream container for this chore. it works great and is easily stored away until I need it for the next time. The amount of water it holds will generally cover a two foot area.

Boil water in tea kettle or pan, add 1/4 cup of sea salt, let dissolve for a minute and go to work! Quick, easy and effective.

It usually takes a couple days before the weeds are completely gone, but you can tell its working immediately after pouring the mixture on the weeds. Thistles especially hate this concoction, they turn black. Make sure you really soak the little buggers, you don't want them coming back.

*Remember: Salt makes it difficult for anything to ever grow where it's applied, so be cautious against getting it in the lawn. Use this only on sidewalks, pavement, around fence posts, etc.

Good Luck!
