Cherokee Astrology - the Sign of the Wolf

In the skies, the sign of the Wolf is represented by Sirius and the Antares. Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky and it is also known as the 'Dog Star.' The Antares star is one of the four first magnitude stars that lie within five degrees of the ecliptic. Both Sirius and the Antares are at each ends of the Milky Way. One or the other can always be seen in the night sky, but never both together.

The Wolf in Cherokee astrology has many deferential characteristics. The wolf can be shy and will avoid eye contact with others or they will leave the vicinity or hide, when a stranger comes near. Hence as the Antares is visible, Sirius will hide or vice-versa.

Wolf is loved by their family as they are fiercely protective towards kith and kin, yet they will attract enemies in their lives as they are ready to attack and defend loved ones. Brave and daring, the wolf can be misunderstood by enemies and competitors as they will rarely start a fight but will strike to defend. Throughout man's history, folklore and fairy tales will draw on the darker, more fierce side of the wolf. Yet when it is considered wolves are the ancestors of man's much loved pet dog, here can be seen the loyal, loving, dependable and constant qualities of the wolf.

In the wild, the wolf will live in packs, usually of around a dozen related wolves. Each pack will have an alpha or top male with an equivalent female. The top male and female will keep order among the other wolves of their gender. All adults will help raise the young and there will always be at least one wolf taking care of the cubs while the others go off to hunt.

The Wolf, in Cherokee astrology is sociable and devoted to their family. They can be serious, but they also have a playful side. Wolves are able to survive many hardships and will take on new challenges. The wolf will lead the way and likes to explore. They have strong levels of intuition and can often sense something is going to happen before it does.

There is respect of authority but also leadership qualities. The wolf knows how to recognise other people's strengths and weaknesses and knows how to delegate.

Within the pack and when out hunting, wolves cooperate with each other. Some wolves will take on specific responsibilities while others relax or play. The Wolf character is a mix of many strong qualities, including leader, teacher, protector, healer and explorer.

Strongly spiritual, the wolf can also be secretive and reserved but for all their guarded tendencies, there's a sense of devotion, affection and loyalty that is all the easier to understand in view of the many dogs and tame wolves that are invited in, to share man's hearth and home.
