Cheryl Cole Signs U.S 'X Factor' Contract for 10 Million Pounds

After months of speculation, rumours and conflicting reports, it seems that Cheryl Cole has finally signed a contract to be a judge on the American version of "X Factor".

As far back as November last year, rumours were rife that Cole was set to sign a contract with Fox, ensuring her place on the US "X Factor" judging panel. However, since then it seemed that her chances were slipping away when reports suggested that the American population wouldn't understand her Geordie accent and that the bosses behind the US version of the talent show wanted only established stars for the show.

Simon Cowell has been pushing for the Girls Aloud singer since he hatched the plan to take the "X Factor" stateside. Had she been turned down as a judge, Cowell planned to give her the advisory role on the show - a role filled by Sinitta in the UK. Clearly, having so much power meant that he got his way, so if you live in America and you don't know Cheryl Cole's name yet, you soon will. Her contract was given on the conditions that she take lessons in order to water down her strong accent and that she lets the show's stylists take care of her wardrobe.

The Geordie star's US "X Factor" contract also comes with a worrying clause. If the general public don't warm to her, the contract can be cancelled and she will be replaced with an American star instead. It would be a terrible dent in her career if that were to happen, not to mention a slight to Simon Cowell's reputation for having recommended her. However, if all goes to plan, Cheryl will successfully earn her place in the hearts of the U.S "X Factor" viewers and establish herself as a credible musical artist by quickly releasing her album "Messy Little Raindrops".

It is, as yet, unknown whether both Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole will appear in this year's UK "X Factor" though it has been suggested that they may consider doing both versions simultaneously.

Wow! That is a crazy amount of money!

Good reporting. £10 million (US$15 million) is an awful lot of money for just appearing on a tv show isn't it. Like millions of others, I would have to work for 20 years to earn that much at my current rate. O wonder how well X-Factor will go down in the USA? American Idol seems to be losing it's lustre, and I don't think there is room for 2 shows that are so similar in format. I think it will probably do ok, especially if they find good performers. I guess only time will tell...
