Chevrolet Tahoe: Suburban Auto Review for the Family

Looking for a Cool New Family Car

J.Alex Morrison
In the early 1990's Chevrolet only offered one small-sized SUV. The Jimmy/Blazer was dominant during the early 90's. It wasn't until 1992 when General Motors released a 2 door suv truck called the Yukon/Tahoe. And in 1994 they released the 4 door Chevrolet Tahoe. At the same time the Tahoe was the leading spoke person for Chevrolet suburban line. This auto review will focus on the 2006 and current models of the Chevrolet Tahoe.

Due to the decline in SUV truck purchases in the market, Chevrolet had to redesign their suburban line. Chevy designed the exterior with a smooth finish. They redesigned the head and tail lamps along with the grill. The Chevrolet Tahoe has a new interior with wood trim dash and chrome covered instrument panel. The Tahoe has a new fresh design to their nine seating arrangements.

From the previous generation of Suburban and Tahoes, the mpg has increased from 19 to 21-22 mpg. The new generation kept the two engines from the GMT800 platform and added the 6.2L V8 to the GMT900 platform. The 4-speed 4L60-E is still the standard transmission for the 4.8 and 5.3 liter engines. And now the 6-speed 6L80 is offered with the 6.2 liter engine.

With the market in such a fickle, General Motors has designed a hybrid Chevrolet Tahoe. It was made with a combination of the 3.0/6.0 liter engine with two 60Kw electric motors that charge a 300 volt battery. The batteries are charged either by gasoline while coasting, or from regenerative braking when de-accelerating.

Both, the standard or the hybrid, are exceptional choices when it comes to traveling in large groups. The suburban models where designed for a larger capacity and heavier load. If you're a family person and are tired of the soccer mom vans, then you should really think of trying the suburban line offered by General Motors. I hope this brief auto review will be of service to you and your search.
