Chevrolet Volt

Will it Be a Winner?

Michael Hardin
General Motors may have a winner on their hands with the new Chevrolet Volt as far as gas mileage goes. The Volt is manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General motors. and will be coming out in November 2010. The electrical system in this vehicle can go 40 miles on an initial charge. Then the vehicle can go another 300 miles on the charge from the engine.

The Chevrolet volt works off Lithium Batteries charged at home using a special plug. There are no adaptors to purchase.

Electrical cars for years have failed to say how one could save money by purchasing them. Everyone knows saving the environment and doing their part to preserve our air and other natural resources is important. The consumer however must be convinced that buying a particular vehicle will save them money over time. The problem with other hybrids was the question of their ability to save money for the average person. Average people do not like to be taken advantage of.

Take the price on hybrids they usually average around 40,000 dollars. That price could be reduced by 20,000 if purchasing a full gas powered car. How much gas could a person purchase for the other 20,000 dollars. If purchasing a hybrid it would be many years and miles of driving before the savings difference would be noticeable.

Many consumers have backed away from purchasing these type vehicles that are on a tight budget. The Chevrolet Volt however may be eligible for a tax credit around 7,000 dollars this would bring the price down to about 34,000 actually paid for the vehicle. This mixed in with the gas savings will make the volt a money saver and this will go along way in the sale of these vehicles at least until electricity rises again.

Americans in the past bought American products because they worked. This can still be the tradition if America returns to quality and not quantity. Buying American is still something all of us should be considering today and in the future. Supporting our car company makes everyone feel better especially when they may have a winner.
