Animal prints continue to be one of the most popular and chic ways to spruce up holiday decor. This simple silver and zebra centerpiece idea contains easily found items, yet has the look of a luxury centerpiece item.
For this project, you will need:
- One tall clear glass cylinder vase (available at most craft supply stores)
- Soap and water
- Paper towels
- Whole coffee beans
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Original Chrome
- Old cookie sheet and spatula designated for crafting
- Two inch wide or larger zebra print ribbon (available at most craft supply stores)
- Scissors
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Spread out a large drop cloth or several sheet of newspaper prior to starting this holiday craft project. Wash the tall clear glass cylinder vase with hot soapy water. Rinse it well and dry with paper towels. Make sure the glass is free from any and all moisture.
Place the whole coffee beans onto the old cookie sheet designated for crafting. Prime them using an even coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the primer dry completely before using the spatula to flip the beans over. Prime any area on the whole coffee beans that have not been primed. Dry for one to two hours.
Paint the beans in the same fashion you primed them using Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Original Chrome. Remember to let them dry before flipping them over and painting to opposite side. Make sure the beans have dried overnight before proceeding.
Place the beans inside the clear glass cylinder. Cut a length of two inch wide or larger zebra print ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the cylinder vase and tie in a bow to secure. Use different colored or patterned ribbon for different holidays throughout the year!
TIP: If you are looking for something a bit more festive, consider using Krylon Stained Glass Color in Red over the chrome paint for a beautiful red shimmer design. Other paints such as Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in other colors can also be used. For those wishing to stick with a black and white zebra theme, paint one half of the whole coffee beans with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black and one half of the beans using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss White. Also consider nesting a white or black candle in the beans for an added charm.
