Now a case can be made for the Cubs' "weak" division, but have you looked at the supposed "weak" NL Central? Yes that NL Central. Remember the Cardinals who weren't supposed to be any good at all? Well there they are at 13-7 and right on the Cubs heels. Milwaukee is right behind them, and the only particular reason why the Brewers are only 11-8 is because their 1-3 against the Cardinals in the early going. The NL East is the only other division in baseball that has three teams over .500. (FLA 12-7, NYM 10-8, PHL 10-9, not even as formidable as the top three in the Central)
Now to the White Sox. Now the AL Central was supposed to be a very tough division due to the overbearing presence of the AL All-Star Team (err I mean the Tigers) and the "I-can't-name-more than-five-players-but-they-keep-on-winning" Cleveland Indians. The Tigers are 7-13 and the Indians are 7-12. I know, I know! It's only April!! But how long can a lack-luster start go on until its no longer just that? I mean c'mon, the Tigers are now 5 games out of first and already need to leap frog all the other teams in the Central division, and nothing has seemed to click.......yet.
The Cubs are mowing down opponents and the White Sox just keep beating their opponents. I know, I know! It's only April!! I have already heard early rumblings of a potential Cubs-White Sox World Series. And while I would love that, as well as countless other baseball fans would, I think its a far cry from reality. I think the Cubs have the more realistic chance. They have been flat out tough the first weeks of the season and with the exception of the Diamondbacks, are the best team in the NL thus far, and with time, may become just that. However, the Mets, Phillies, D-Backs, Padres, Rockies, Brewers, and maybe even the Cardinals, are all well balanced teams and could easily become a dominant force in the NL. For the White Sox, I see the situation as a much darker one.
The Red Sox and Yankees will have to be overcome before its all said and done, the Tigers will awaken at some point and will be hard to stop when that finally happens, the Indians will click together as the faceless organization eventually, and the Angels are downright tough. There are many obstacles blocking the White Sox pending success, many more than seemingly block the Cubs. But I know, I know!! It's only April!
