Chicago Bears Could Snag LSU's Tyson Jackson in 2009 NFL Draft

Tyson Jackson is one big boy who entered the 2008 season as one of the nation's top defensive ends. At 6'5" and 289 lbs., it's easy to see how he got there. He redshirted as a freshman at Louisiana State University in 2004 as a defensive end for the Tigers which led up to creating a very intimidating defensive line during the 2007 season. He was credited during this season with 3 1/2 sacks and 36 tackles which was down from his previous season. His size and stature help him to shed away most block attempts and regardless of the bulk, he is pretty quick for his size.

If he were to shed a few pounds away, it could only help to aid in gaining speed. He's pretty instinctive and has been fairly quick when it comes to lateral moves, however one weakness is not being able to change direction quickly. A little less weight could certainly improve his agility and ability. Then again, his size can make for an imposing figure and he has the hands that can manage to get into the passing zone fast. He also doesn't slouch when it comes to going after the receiver to stop the advancement of the ball.

He had been considering the draft last year, however after discussing this with his coaches and seeing his prospects in the 2008 draft, decided to return to LSU for his senior year. He seemed to drop off his game during his 2007 season when compared to 2006 where he had a total of 8 1/2 sacks for the season. It was probably a good idea to stick around, learn a little more and, not to mention, graduate.

We should see him in the first round draft pick, according to nfldraftscout.com. He is rated #3 out of 207 defensive ends vying for a spot. He could, however, possibly be looked over until later in the first round. We know that Jackson had an interview set up with the Bears and Mel Kiper, Jr. has predicted that it could be the Bears that snatch him up if they decide to put their focus on their defense with their #18 pick. Some other options as reported by fantasyfootballjungle.com could be also the Texans at #15 or the Chargers at #16. If they all pass him by, which doesn't seem that likely, he could even end up with the Falcons who has the #24 pick.
