Defensive end Julius Peppers is reportedly close to signing a deal with the Chicago Bears. Chester Taylor has reportedly already signed to play for the Chicago Bears.
Peppers was a stud at Carolina. Julius Peppers was the free agent everyone wanted but couldn't really afford. The Bears have suddenly solidified an already tough defense if Peppers comes aboard.
Peppers played basketball and football in college at North Carolina. He was such a terrific athlete that scouts considered him as a potential top player in the NFL. He has been every bit of that and more. The Pro Bowler could call Chicago home if an Associated Press story late this afternoon is correct. If you add Julius Peppers to a defense that already boasts Brian Urlacher--then things get a little scary for those playing Chicago. Talk about a potent 1-2 punch on defense. Not many quarterbacks are going to want to play the Chicago Bears. The Bears already have some heavy hitters on defense without getting Peppers and a healthy Urlacher.
Chester Taylor was a starting running back in Minnesota until Adrian Peterson arrived. Taylor is a 1,000 yard rusher who also has the ability to catch the screen and short pass. Jay Cutler will absolutely love the guy.
Will he start over Matt Forte? That remains to be seen and let's just say the preseason will be a determining factor this year.
If the Bears land Taylor and Peppers, it will be like getting rich very quickly. Sure, there will be expectations in the Windy City for these two big money free agents. If Chicago can land a big name wide receiver, the offseason will have been about as perfect as possible.
The Chicago Bears getting Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor are certainly serving notice they want a Super Bowl team right now. Jay Cutler was the first piece of the puzzle and everything else is starting to fall into place.
