I realized that New Orleans has a black mayor, and then I asked myself, "Doesn't he care? Why isn't he doing anything about this?" I heard similar stories about Detroit and south Chicago. Crimes happening all over the place, poor law enforcement, low employment rates, and black elected officials running the cities.
Why aren't these black officials doing anything to help their own people? Obviously the voters had some kind of faith in them, that's why they got elected. But these officials keep proving that they somehow aren't capable of taking care of the cities they were elected to take care of.
Chicago has been accused of having corrupted officials by conservative republicans. I felt as though the republicans were just saying that because the citizens of Chicago seemed to lean toward democratic candidates. But then, I looked at the condition of the city, and the crimes that are reported, and I can't help but to feel that maybe these republicans are right.
What bothers me even more than the corrupted officials, are that the citizens of the cities keep electing and re-electing these kinds of politicians. Is having black leadership so important to the black community, that we're willing to elect corrupted leaders just simply because they're our color? This is ridiculous.
The problem with these cities is that they have poor leaders running the show. I don't think the people living in the city are as bad as the people running the city. Crimes are happening and are going unsolved because no one is enforcing the law! You can have poor law enforcement in any city, and the city will go wild. What keeps this country in order is that we have rules to follow. These cities look as if they have no rules.
They are being led by people who don't care about them. These officials are inactive and uninvolved with the people of the city. If they cared about their people, they would try harder to improve things.
And what's with the voters? Has it ever crossed their mind that they need to elect someone else, even if they are of another color-- or even of another political party? Republicans have always been known to be tough on crime-- sometimes unfairly tough. If the voters put a white republican as their leader, how many crimes do you think will go unsolved?
I'm not saying that they need to elect someone white, I'm not saying that they need to elect a republican, I'm just saying they need to elect someone better if they care anything about themselves and their city.

Post a CommentI don't usually agree with Shamontiel but i have to side with her on this one. There are two sides to every story.
I also blame the folks who won't talk about what's happening in their community and would rather be quiet. They'll just let folks continue to murder every damn body for fear of themselves. But on the other hand the police don't provide proper protection when someone in the community speaks out. When white folks speak up, they feel confident that someone in their community will be quick to report if there's danger in the neighborhood. This is seldom true in the black community, especially in lower income communities. They have to worry about not just the killer but the next door neighbor telling the killer they told.
I can't necessarily agree with this one. Mayor Daley and the Chicago Police Department have been working their asses off trying to stop the crime in Chicago mainly because they don't want the National Guard coming in and don't want tourists to stop coming here. I can't blame this one on politicans. I'm blaming this one 100% on the people. The politicians can make the rules and put folks in prison, but nobody is holding a gun up to another person's head saying we just HAVE to commit crimes and kill ourselves. Mike-E of AfroFlow had a rhyme in his current CD that said something to the effect of the way black men are killing each other today, the KKK couldn't have planned it better themselves.
