Chicago Nightlife- Guide to Weed Street District

Sophia S. Mark
The Weed Street District of Chicago is centered around, well Weed Street and is known for the large number of nightclubs packed into a two block radius. Each nightclub on Weed St. has a unique crowd and party scene, you just need to find the one that is right for you.

Crobar
1543 North Kingsbury, Chicago

Crobar is one of the largest nightclubs in Chicago and the two story dance palace is quickly filled every weekend. Each night at Crobar sees a different crowd but the party moves to house and techno beats. Recently Crobar has added a Latin night on Wednesdays, but there is much to improve before it becomes a crowd pleaser.

Sangria
901 West Weed Street, Chicago

Sangria is the Latin hotspot of the Weed Street District, and most of Chicago for that matter. On Friday and Saturday nights the popular restaurant hosts a DJ and opens its doors to the young and beautiful of Chicago looking for a good time. Latin beats play loud and strong all night, going from salsa and bachata to reggaeton and the top forty. There is a strong single presence, especially on Friday nights when ladies are free and men are ushered in off the street to buy all of them drinks. To read a complete review of the nightclub see my article, Sangria Late Nights.

Republic
1520 North Fremont, Chicago

Republic is the newest addition to Weed Street, taking over the site of several lackluster nightclubs. From all appearances it seems that Republic is here to stay, the scene is as strong as more established clubs in Chicago. Dance, people watch, or lounge; you can do it all at Republic. The huge club has two large dance floors, the back dance floor is more space friendly. Check the website for live acts and events, otherwise expect to hear anything from trance to hip hop.

Zentra
923 West Weed Street, Chicago

Two floors of music await a mostly college crowd at Zentra, with the music depending on the night and floor. The upper level is a full blown dance party with loud music, fog machines and plenty of sweaty dancers. On the lower floor the music is constantly changing with a crowd that comes and goes from room to room. Even though the music and general club atmosphere is good I can't help but feel like Zentra is the meat market of Weed Street, maybe just a little too many single guys and dark corners for one place.

Hogs & Honeys 1551 North Sheffield and Joe's Sports Bar 940 West Weed Street, Chicago

Both Hogs and Honeys and Joe's cater to a younger crowd, and at times the room gets a little rowdy, or guaranteed to in the case of H&H. Hogs and Honeys is known for its mechanical bull and the girls that straddle it. While Joe's is the place to grab a beer and watch a game.

In the nightlife business, ego tends to drive people more than worrying about the details, the party and the product, so we really strive to keep our ego under wraps and work together with all of our business partners to create a collective vision, which is sometimes direct and sometimes a compromise.
