Chicago Public School Bans Kids Bringing Lunch from Home

Snidely Whiplash
In yet another example of the progressive hypocrisy that "conservatives want to legislate everyone's private life," enjoy the Chicago Tribune's headline "Chicago School Bans Some Lunches Brought From Home."

Keep in mind that Chicago is one of the mega centers of progressivism in this nation. Chitown is a haven of Democrats and their political machinery. In fact when I hear the phrase "political machine" my mind flashes to Tammany Hall at the turn of the 20th Century and current day Chicago and the Daley Machine. This should not be confused with the entrenchment of nutty progressives and greenies in San Fran, the Pacific Northwest, Madison, Ann Arbor, Berkeley and sundry other places where lefties rule the social roost if not the political roost.

I want to use this event to highlight the lefty hypocrisy. Of course I think most right minded Americans agree it's not the business of schools to tell kids their parent's cannot pack their lunches. That is asinine. I would also argue the fiscal burden of parents to foot the bill for school lunches as packing a lunch is clearly cheaper than to buy lunch on a daily basis, but keep in mind more than likely the lefties will pay for every kid's lunch too, so no financial objections, please!

Is this silly and misguided policy a financial one to enrich progressive desires as, according to the Trib article "Any school that bans homemade lunches also puts more money in the pockets of the district's food provider, Chartwells-Thompson. The federal government pays the district for each free or reduced-price lunch taken, and the caterer receives a set fee from the district per lunch." See how it works? One hand feeds the other.

One parent applauds the policy. "Parent Miguel Medina said he thinks the "no home lunch policy" is a good one. "The school food is very healthy," he said, "and when they bring the food from home, there is no control over the food." (my emphasis). CONTROL, huh? Gee, isn't that making my point for me?

How much guts does it take for a misinformed lefty to claim "It's conservatives that want to dictate every aspect of your private life" and then to stand for not allowing the time honored act of "brown bagging it?" Isn't this exceptional arrogance? Assuming once again individuals cannot make their own decisions and in this case, rear their own offspring without state assistance? Do progressives' desires to control and direct our private lives have any end? If so, where is it? It seems they are intent on micromanaging the private decisions of every American. It's becoming not just intrusive but more than likely it's not legal either. But progressives do indeed have an and game.

I saw a lefty mouthpiece on Fox the other day and the topic was nutrition and overweight Americans. The lefty was a nutrition nut pushing her agenda and she admitted that if government was providing the health care then they could and should enforce "healthy" policies...ya know, like many of us against Obamacare argued? We argued that such efforts would emerge when government provided our health care and we were called paranoid, liars and racist kooks just hating a black president and all the rest for our positions. Now how's that looking to the observer?

Aren't progressives actually following through and trying to do all the things we feared and objected to, and seemingly doing these things for almost exactly the reason we objected in the first place? And it's me and mine that are crazy and paranoid? The evidence seems to support nearly every objection we raised. Imagine that?

Glad I grew up when I did. School I went to didn't even have a cafeteria and we HAD to brown bag it or go home for lunch.

Typical nanny-state BS, Jimbo! But you have to take a look at their electorate. Most of them are on some kind of gov't assistance, and (if they're like some of the people here) they're the kind of folks who just flit through life and let everyone who gives a f-k clean up after them! Seriously, to people like that ignorant parent who supports this thing, packing a lunch for his kids is now one less thing he has to trouble himself with!

I read about this yesterday and laughed. Can people get any more stupid? The schools system (which is the government) doesn't like what kids eat, so they will take away their FREEDOM OF CHOICE! IDIOTS!
