Early morning silence
hanging still
as the sun comes up
and fights
the hazy skies of Chicago.
Dew drips from
the tomato vines
and falls to the ground.
Children sleepy, walking,
arms laden with books.
Trains stopping,
people rushing.
Anticipating umbrella
loosely held in hand
I greet the morning.
