Chicago White Sox Postseason History

Since entering the American League in 1901, the Chicago White Sox have reached the postseason nine times. Here is a look at the Chicago White Sox postseason history.

1906. The Chicago White Sox win their first American League Pennant with a record of 93 and 58. They advance to the World Series for the first time where they face their cross town rivals the Chicago Cubs. The two teams split the first four games of the series, but the White Sox win the next two to take the series in six games. The White Sox win their first World Series title in franchise history.

1917. The White Sox win their second American League Pennant and advance to their second World Series with a record of 100 and 54. The White Sox play the New York Giants in the World Series. The teams split the first four games, each team winning their home games. The White Sox would then win the next two games to capture the series in six games. It is Chicago's second World Championship.

1919. The Chicago White Sox return to the World Series in 1919 and face the Cincinnati Reds. The World Series is expanded to a best of nine format in 1919. The Reds win the series 5 games to 3 to take the series. Eight members of the White Sox are later accused of throwing the World Series. They are found not guilty in a court of law but the players are still given a lifetime ban by the commissioner of Baseball Kennesaw Mountain Landis.

1959. The Chicago White Sox win their first American League Pennant in 40 years and return to the World Series for the first time since 1919. The White Sox play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. The White Sox win game one, but the Dodgers win the next three to take a three games to one lead. The White would win game five to extend the series to a 6th game. The Dodgers win game six 9 to 3 to win the World Series four games to two

1983. The Chicago White Sox win the American League Western Division to advance to the American League Championship Series. The White Sox play the Baltimore Orioles. Chicago wins the first game but lose the next three. Baltimore wins the series three games to one.

1993. The White Sox return to the postseason for the first time in 10 seasons when they win the American League Western Division Title. They face the Toronto Blue Jays in the League Championship Series. The Blue Jays win the first two games in Chicago and the White Sox return the favor and win the next two games in Toronto. But Toronto would battle back to take the next two games and win the series four games to two.

2000. The White Sox return to the postseason in 2000, this time as the American League Central Division Champions. They face the Seattle Mariners in the first round of the playoffs. The Mariners go on to sweep the series in three games to send Chicago home.

2005. The White Sox win the Central Division title in 2005 to return to the postseason. They play the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs, sweeping the series in three games. The White Sox advance to the American League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels win the first game but the White Sox would win the next four to win their first American League Pennant since 1959.

The White Sox play the Houston Astros in the World Series. They sweep the series in four games to win their first World Series Title since 1917. They win game four by a score of 1 to 0. Jermaine Dye who hit .438 with a home run and three RBI's is named the MVP of the series.

2008. The Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins finish the regular season tied for first in the American League Central Division. The two teams play a one game playoff to determine the winner. The White Sox win the game by a score of 1 to 0 to win the division and advance to the postseason. The Chicago White Sox face the Tampa Bay Rays in the divisional playoff round. The White Sox would lose the series in four games.
