Chicago may not have anymore drive-in movie theaters or dollar movie theaters, but there are still local movie theaters and businesses that make your movie ticket experience a little more reasonable. However, you have to know where to look.

D'PUC Credit Union: The nonprofit financial institution is located in Chicago's loop at 33 S. State St., where Carson Pirie Scott used to stand. Sign in on the State St. side, and go to the eighth floor to the window from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The tickets are $8 and can be used at all AMC Movie Theaters. If you're an AMC Movie Watcher, the movie passes count towards regular points.

The only downside is that since you're coming during regular window hours, it might be a wait to get movie passes at the same time members are coming for financial services. Ticket profit goes towards administrative costs for the credit union, according to the manager.

The New 400 Theater: Located near Loyola University in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood at 6746 N. Sheridan Rd., The New 400 Theater showtimes are usually after 1 p.m. General admission is $5 before 6 p.m., and after 6 p.m., it's $6.50 for students with an ID and $7.50 for the general public. Children's tickets are $5 all day, and parking in the area is only $2, which isn't bad considering how difficult parking is on the north side. If I don't walk to the theater, I usually park on the street when parking is light during the day.

Although I'm not thrilled with the idea of them now serving liquor if you want a drink, beer, wine and premium liquor range from $5 to $6.25. On Tuesdays, you can get a free small popcorn with the purchase of a movie ticket.

Additional Notes: Ticket prices may vary by next year so contact the companies' websites to verify rates.
