Chicken Little Themed Educational Activities and Games for 2 to 5 Year Olds

Rebecca Hayes
Let's face it, kids love movies, but it's been proven that they should watch no more than 2 hours of TV a day. So why not combine their love of a movie and activities that will help them learn and grow? Following are suggestions for the movie Chicken Little released in 2005. These activities would also work well for preschool classes and party games for this age group.

Watch the movie

Let your kids watch the show while you prepare the activities for the rest of the day or attend to other responsibilities.

Pretend to be an Animal

All the characters in Chicken Little are animals. Pretend to be a certain animal. If you child is older, have then try to guess what animal it is. If they are younger, tell them what animal you are pretending to be and then have them pretend with you.

Up, Up and Away

In Chicken Little space travel is a part of the story. Say this poem and do the actions with your child then talk about what rocket ships are and answer any questions they might have about space.

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom,

I'm going to the moon

If you want to take a trip

Climb upon my rocket ship (pretend you are climbing)

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom,

I'm going to the moon.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, (shrink down towards the floor)

5, 4, 3, 2, 1,

Blast off! (Jump up)

Read a Book

Read the original Chicken Little story with your child. Ask them questions about the pictures and the story. There are also other related stories that you could read with your child. Following are a few suggestions:

  • The Problem With Chickens (New York Times Best Illustrated Books (Awards))by Bruce McMillan and Gunnella
  • This Is Baseballby Margaret Blackstone and John O'Brien
  • My Baseball Bookby Gail Gibbons
  • Roaring Rockets (Amazing Machines)by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker

Indoor Baseball

In the movie Chicken Little, Chicken Little tries to impress his Dad by joining the baseball team. Play an indoor version of baseball with your child that they are sure to love. Give them an empty paper towel roll and blow up a balloon. Throw the balloon to your child and let them try to hit it and then run to a predetermined base. If you child is younger and does not understand the rules just let them have a fun time hitting the balloon with the paper towel tube.
