Chicken Product Recall

Lisa Marie
According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Perdue Farms, Inc. recalled one of their chicken products. Even though this recall was released July 19, 2010, consumers may still have the product in their freezers since the expiration date isn't until June 9, 2011.

What is being recalled?
Approximately 92,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets are involved in this recall.

What's the problem?
Consumers have alerted the company to their discovery of small blue plastic pieces in the chicken nuggets. No injuries have been reported, but swallowing plastic, regardless of color or size, is never a good idea.

Which specific chicken nuggets are involved in this recall?
The product in question is "Great Value Fully Cooked Chicken Nuggets," which are manufactured by Perdue Farms, Inc. in Perry, GA. They were sold in frozen 1-pound, 13-ounce bags. The bags have the establishment number "P-33944" and the case code "89008 A0160" on the back. The packages also state a "Best If Used By" date of June 9, 2011. They were produced on June 9, 2010 and they were shipped to one nationwide retail chain store. The official recall did not name the store, but research on Great Value products only suggests one store - WalMart.

What do I do now?
If a quick check of your freezer's contents reveals this product, contact Perdue Consumer Relations at (877) 727-3447 for further instruction. You should call your doctor if you believe you or your children have been injured from eating these chicken nuggets.
