The Chihuahua can be one that can be difficult to train. While the Chihuahua is an intelligent dog, training your puppy may take some time. They also like to be around other cats and dogs, so it is important to socialize your Chihuahua puppy at an early age. The best thing to do is respond to them in a firm way, but not to be intimidating. This way they will respond and learn the best. Some things that they may try to get away with would be jumping and frequent barking, which is you don't like you will want to train them right away when they are young.
The Chihuahua is known for following their owner's every move when there is a stranger in the home or nearby. This may be more noticeable when there are children present, whom they may not be familiar with. Some experts may say that Chihuahuas may not make good pets if there are small children in the home, but if they grow up with them and you get your puppy when children are young, this should not happen. It is a learning experience; they must learn how to treat each and every member of the family properly.
Since the Chihuahua is so small in size, it tends to need less walks as playing around the house is typically enough exercise. This doesn't mean that they do not enjoy it, but keep in mind that they are small and may not be able to handle a large walk, especially in the heat. Getting the Chihuahua fresh air is important for mental stimulation, which can help them get along better with children and other animals. Keep in mind that their small size makes them fragile, and may not be able to all the activities a larger dog would be able to.
Chihuahuas can be great companions, but as with any other kind of breed, you want to make sure that they are trained properly. Short hair Chihuahuas require less grooming, which is nice for the busy lifestyle. It is a very popular breed of dogs, and it can make a companion for a long time.
