Child Abuse in Texas - Help Raise Awareness & Support Local Organizations

Kay Corbett
In the State of Texas, between 2006-2007 there were over 241,000 reports of child abuse and neglect. Over 15,000 children were removed from their homes. More than 71,000 children were confirmed as victims of abuse. 223 children died as a result of abuse.

"Child Abuse" these two words do not express the true meaning of the action. Due to large number of dispicable and cruel cases, one can only assume that Americans have become desensitized to this word and what it really means to a child who suffers abuse and neglect on a daily basis. Most of which should be classified as torture.

What do you think of when you hear the word child abuse? Here are a few descriptions of abuse suffered by infants and children.

How can you help children who have suffered such horrific abuse and torture?

Support organizations that increase awareness of child abuse and help children grow up to be healthy adults. Support organizations that focus on the safety and care of children.

Greater Texas Community Partners is an organization that does just that. They are a non-profit organization with the mission to meet the needs of abused and neglected children through state and local collaborations. The GTCP provides training to volunteers and assists with fundraising. Rainbow Rooms have been designed to provide clothing, shoes, underwear, hygiene items and other supplies to help children who are entering foster care or care with relatives, or children who live in their own home, but are found to be below the poverty line. You can support your local Rainbow Room with cash donations or donating needed items.

Visit their website at www.gtcp.org to find out more about supporting this wonderful organization. Here you will find locations of Rainbow Rooms that exist all over the state of Texas.

The Greater Texas Community Partners organization was able to serve over 77,000 children from 2006-2007. Help them to continue their efforts by volunteering and donating to their cause.
