I wont lie I was sixteen when I had my first child I asked for an epidural but I couldn't hold still for the anastegoligist to put it in. I am glad that I didn't get it. Although labor hurts with no medication you forget the pain as soon as you are holding your child. I was a little older with my second child and of course the doctor asked if I wanted an epidural, by this time you had to sign papers to have one. I chose not to I figured I had one with no pain meds I can do it again. I was in labor for 16 min; I asked my doctor if not having an epidural helps move it along. She said yes because your body is made to give birth and when you put meds that your body does not need it slows the process down.
So I was sold on the whole natural thing. My third son was not so easy, I was in labor all day and they had to induce which again this is making your body do something it does not want to. Before I knew it, it was all over and I was holding my son. I was always very proud to say yes I had all three natural. My doctor said it doesn't happen any more moms tend to take the easy way out once they fell the first bit of pain. Well it was only two months after I had my son that I got pregnant again. I was very miserable from being pregnant for almost two years straight. Again my doctor asked if I wanted an epidural of course I said no why have one now? Well it got close to the end of my pregnancy and my mom talked me into getting the epidural.
It was great! I had never been able to enjoy such a wonderful miracle of life because I was always in so much pain. This time I was relaxed and could see the mirror on the ceiling so I watch as I pushed. Wow what a sight! Although it was a great experience I would not recommend it. You ask why? I can't even explain the pain I have in my lower back that is now permanent. My husband will sometimes go to hug me and just barley touch my back wrong and it sends needle pains shooting through my lower back. So there is good and bad but to me the bad is worse and if I could do it over I would do it natural.
