Child Care Needs for Work from Home Moms

Deciding to be a work from home mom can mean a career change but also a big change for the household. Working from home for a mom is a balancing act of piles of laundry and job assignments with deadlines. While you are planning changes in and to the household it is recommended to also plan child care needs and costs. Being a work at home mom does not mean that children must remain at home as well. In some cases, demanding and stressful home jobs require too much time and attention. In those cases, it is best to consider receiving help in child care even if it is only part-time service.

What sort of child care service does a work from home mom require? This answer depends on the family budget, age of children in question, type of employment and hours of work that mom has to complete.

Family budget restrictions are often the determining factor in how much child care a work from home mom can afford. In case the family budget cannot allow child care it is acceptable to keep child or children at home with you. To deal with full time child care requirements as well as work, set a work schedule when assignments are completed. Make the most out of those work hours and complete as much work as possible. This can be temporary, especially if at a later time you are earning more money and are able to afford child care.

If your family budget does allow child care it is important to plan if this will be part-time or full-time. Also, remember that age of children should be considered as different age groups come with specific needs.

Newborns and infants require most care, as babies need frequent feedings and attention. Consider asking family and friends for help. Grandparents that are in good health and have no employment can make great at home babysitters. Have them come to your house during your work hours to cover essential child care needs such as feedings and diaper changes. Also, a friend who is between jobs or unemployed can also be a great child care resource. For new moms, having their children at home with the help is usually more comforting. This way you will not worry if the infant is receiving proper care, as they will be within your eyesight.

Toddlers are more active, especially ones who are mobile and able to walk. Toddlers are also more independent, in some cases they are able to play by themselves on the floor while mommy works. It is acceptable to consider child care for a toddler outside of your home. Many child care centers will accept a child for part-time, or only for certain days. Allowing your child to go to a child care center two days out of the week will also allow you to complete more assignments. It also gives your child a chance to play with other kids and do educational activities outside of home.

Older children or school age children can feed themselves and take care of most tasks independently. With school age children you will have to deal with snow days or summer time when school is out. Plan snow day activities ahead of time, something that will occupy kids while you get work done. For summer time you might have to consider a babysitter or set different work hours to deal with extra noise at home.

Remember that work at home moms work from home, and just because they are not in an office cubicle it does not mean that they have to pull double duty with work and child care. It does not make you less of a mother to have someone keep an eye on your child while you get work done from home. Productivity from home is important, and so is safety and essential care of your children. Find proper balance by accepting help and organizing work hours as a work from home mom.

You've made many excellent points! People confuse work at home moms with stay at home moms and expect the moms to do everything at the same time.
