Child Centric Crochet Blogs

Family Focused Creations and Blogs

Sharon Schmidt Tyler
Crochet is one of my hobbies, and one that soothes me or lets me think as I work whichever I need more that day. My hands work away while my mind can be on the television, my crazy kids, the audio book that I am listening to, or nothing more than the feel of yarn and feeling that comes from making something with your hands. More often than not, my projects are something that will end up in the hands of a child; baby blankets, toys, sweaters, socks, what have you. This is partially because I like working in a small, manageable scale, and partially because there are some many children in my life. There are also a good number of charities and places to donate such items for children that really need them. These blogs focus on the projects that I love most, including those that are useful and sometimes just plain cute.

Tangled Happy is a blog consisting of patterns and tutorials that are original, as well as project links from other blogs and websites. I really love the regular entries that Yarn Crafting with Kids", particularly now that my kids really want to offer their "help" with anything I try to do. My favorite sections from the blog to date are the Baby Monsters and a neat Flower Hair Clip . Most of the projects are crochet, but there are other crafty projects posted on occasion.

Easy Makes Me Happy is a blog after my own heart. The blog owner is a mother that loves crochet, design and crafts of all kinds. She sells some patterns on Esty , and I have coveted many of those patterns. There are some craft tutorials and free crochet patterns available from the blog, but of course, the very best are only for sale. She also posts about her life, her other interests and her family.

The Kansas Hooker is another blog maintained by an Esty shop owner. She is a mother and a teacher, and frankly her patterns and projects are incredibly cute. Her "Uglee" critters are adorable and big favorites in my house. She offer s some patterns free and sells finished projects in her store.

AllCrafts.Net's Free Crafts Update Blog in not strictly about crochet, or patterns for kids. However, a good portion of the patterns posted are great gifts, toys, and practical objects for children and their families. The blog, and the related website, is extensive and well organized. I can always find a new idea or project that inspires me to get crafty. Seasonal and holiday inspired crafts often make their way into the blog. Using the categories you can see just the type of project that interests you, here are the crochet patterns .

Attic24 is the blog maintained by a stay at home mother who shares her current projects and crafting adventures with her family. She does not post patterns, but often links to information on the books from which she found the pattern. The crafts and looks into her daily life focus on her family, often her children. This often inspires me to pick up my crochet hook and finish, or start, a project intended for my own children.

Some of the other fantastic crochet blogs that I check in on regularly include Every Day Crochet , Ambassador Crochet , and A Crocheted World . As with any such listing there are certainly more quality blogs out there that I might not know about, have forgotten about, or might not fully appreciate. If you have a favorite that I did not mention here, please comment and link with a note as to why you love that particular blog so that fellow crochet mad readers might find their way there.
