Child Molester Turns Himself In
A 16-year-old girl was assaulted on Thursday, December 17, 2009. The Kerr County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the location the same day and Investigator Mark Fields obtained a warrant for Cody Morgan Smith's arrest after interviewing the girl.
Cody Morgan Smith was not at the Kerrville residence when investigators went to arrest him, but turned himself in the next day to the Kerr County Jail.
Cody Morgan Smith is a 45-year-old man with a previous criminal history of assault and domestic violence. He is described by a Kerr County Sheriff's Office spokesman as an "extended family member living with the victim's mother. He was interviewed and cooperated with authorities."
Research on Cody Morgan Smith reveals that he was arrested June 12, 2009 for a class A misdeamenor, "Assault, Causes Bodily Injury, Family Violence". According to the Kerr County criminal case history, on September 8, 2009, he pleaded no contest in a plea deal and was given 12 months of probation. He was ordered to pay an $800 fine and court costs of $252. He paid the fines and court costs off in one payment of $1,029 on September 9, 2009.
Cody Morgan Smith has been released from the Kerr County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
It is not clear if Cody Morgan Smith will also incur an additional charge for a probation violation. No other details are being provided due to the fact that this is an ongoing investigation and the age of the victim. Kerrville is a small city of 20,000 known for its low crime rate.
