The kids can even help you make this simple piece of wood patio furniture just for them. You can use paint to customize the children's patio furniture to fit in with your existing outdoor furniture.
To Build a Children's Patio Table Out of a Wooden Palette You Will Need:
1 Wood palette
4 fence posts, wood legs, or metal legs
Screws
Power drill
Power sander or sand paper
Primer
Paint
Paint Brush
Plexi Glass or Glass
The first step is to find the legs for you child sized patio furniture. You have a few options. You can use some simple fence posts from your home improvement store, which is my favorite option. You can also use some pre made wood legs or even some pre made metal legs that are ok to use outside.
Lay your wood palette on the ground face down and install your wooden legs. A child sized patio table will need to be shorter than a traditional piece of patio furniture. If you are buying pre made wood legs or the wood finial posts have them cut down to size. You can even do this yourself with a jig saw. You will need to buy shorter metal legs that specifically say child height on them if you go that route.
To install the wood fence posts as legs simple pre drill a hole in each of the four corners of the wood pallet. Use a double sided screw to attach the leg to the table. You may need to pre drill a hole in the middle of the fence post as well. Some may come with a screw in them already.
You can also add a finial to make some custom feet. These almost always have that double sided screw in them!
Once your legs are screwed on you will need to turn the child sized patio table over and sand it. Wooden pallets can be rather rough, since they are not really used as furniture in most cases. You may want to break out the power sander and really get rid of the potential for any splinters.
Now, primer the whole piece out with a coat of exterior grade primer. Let this dry and paint with exterior house paint.
Try painting the four legs of the children's patio furniture in one color. Now, in coordinating colors paint out each strip of wood on the palette a difference color. Once this first coat dries you can add polka dots, stripes, and more!
You can finish by topping the entire children's table off with a sheet of Plexiglas. You may want to screw the plexi glass to the top of the wood palette to prevent it from moving. You can also use a piece of real glass.
