The author is R.H. Martin, a name you'll want to remember. As he weaves a fast-paced tale, Martin takes the question of redemption and fine-tunes it to sensational perfection. Not since the advent of The Da Vinci Code and the Left Behind series has an author so obviously delighted in leading readers on a quest of intrigue and awe.
Martin introduces several imperfect characters who are grappling with the seven deadly sins. From an envious policeman to a greedy CEO to a congressman addicted to sex, Martin sets the stage to pique the reader's interest as 'God messages' begin to mysteriously appear and cause a stir all over the world.
Near the beginning of the book, Al-Khalil, a young Palestinian loses his widowed mother in a missile strike while Louie the Cop struggles with being passed over for promotion time and again. The message of redemption is evident throughout for those who choose that as their path.
In the words of R. H. Martin himself, the theme of Children of Abraham is "driven by the question of redemption, but the action is character driven. Most of the characters are flawed, grappling with the seven deadly sins. Al Khalil carries around the wounds of having been orphaned by Israeli military action. Louis the Cop is 20 years past burned out and never got a break in life. Tomás vowed to never be under anybody's thumb, yet finds himself losing control over his life. Claire can't stand confrontation, yet finds herself sucked into enabling illegal behavior. Clay MacRae a sociopath CEO of an Enron-type corporation is trying to complete the rape of his company before forces unleashed by the God messages catch up with him. Max Silverman, a Congressman who is also a sex addict, tries to keep his addiction private in his very public life. Joe 24, a Harlem football hero, who suffers a career ending injury, can't seem to adapt to losing his celebrity status. Add to the cast a mobster, gang-banger, Turkish money launderer, and others wrapped up in a plot that takes unexpected twists and turns, thanks to the messages from God, and you have a fast-paced story that will surely entertain-and provoke thought."
Children of Abraham is this year's must-read with enough convincing twists to keep the reader turning page after page. It's a perfect selection for individuals or book clubs as there are discussion questions located in the back of the book. It's available through the author's website: www.rhmartin.net.
