Children and Cockatoo: 5 Tips for Caring for a Cockatoo
Your Parents Are Right, Birds Require Attention from Their Owners
5 Tips Parents Can Teach Children About Caring For A Cockatoo
Tip #1 - Provide a safe place for your cockatoo.
Purchase a cage that will allow the bird to have room to eat and play. A cage 40 x 40 x 80 has plenty of room for your new bird to eat and play. Add toys that will engage your bird to play. Remember the bigger the cage the better. A cockatoo needs room to hang on as they climb the cage to play.
Tip #2 - Purchase a play gym for your cockatoo.
A play gym will give your cockatoo exercise and keep him or her happy for hours. Play gyms come in two ways, free standing and mounting on top of cage. The free standing gym allows you to take the bird out of his cage and place him on the gym to play. With the on top of the cage gym, your cockatoo can walk out of his cage onto the gym by himself or herself. Your cockatoo will get hours of enjoyment from a play gym.
Tip #3 - Provide plenty of fresh food and water.
Food and water is vital to your birds health and well being. Combine a good amount of pelleted food, fruits and vegetables for your new bird.
Tip #4 - Provide plenty of your time for your cockatoo.
Give your cockatoo your time by holding, playing and singing to your bird. Birds love to sit on your shoulder and love to hear you sing. In time, your cockatoo will be singing back to you.
Tip #5 - Provide health care check-ups for your bird.
Regular visits to your local avian veterinarian or your exotic animal veterinarian ensures your bird stay healthy and happy for many years.
Remember, birds require a lot of love, attention, health care and food in order to be a healthy bird. Spending time with your new cockatoo will make him or her more lovable. So with that in mind spend as much time as you can with your bird. Soon you fill find caring for your cockatoo is second nature.
