Children Are Our Youth, Our Angels, and Our Future

Mary Quast
Many years ago, mortality rates were very high among the children in this country. To cope with such painful losses, many believed children were angels sent by God to walk the earth with us. Many of whom were called back to be with Him.

The children you see around you today are our angels. They are the youth of our nation, the youth of our state, our city, our church, and our hearts. These precious angels have minds like sponges and hearts full of love.

These angels are calling upon the elders of the church to fulfill the promises made at their baptisms to guide in their Christian education. They want to hear about your experiences in the church and with the Lord. Volunteer to sit in with a Youth Group on a Sunday night and share with them. If you have a favorite experience or an idea for a project, share it with a Sunday school teacher or volunteer to help. Make an effort to speak to at least one of child each week. Find out their name, where they go to school what they like to do. It's not hard. They don't (usually) bite.

These angels are calling upon the adults in the community to help them, guide them, and protect them. Some may have doting families who will hold their hands every step of the way and catch them when they fall. Others won't have anybody; they may be lost within their own families or just simply lost. Reaching out to the lost angels will be harder to do; some may turn the other way, refusing your hand. If you wait a moment, you will see a tear streaking down a cheek. They want to trust in honesty and love. Don't give up, let your heart open up and let them see.

All of these angels are truly gifts from God and should be cherished. Don't turn your back or look away from them. Find out how you can help, donate money or volunteer time to various organizations that support children's plights. On a smaller scale, get to know the angels in your neighborhood. Look into the eyes of the youngest angels.

Oh, if you speak to them, you might get a smile, a shy look, or a bold one telling you, "I don't know you. I can't talk to you." To get to know the littlest angels, volunteer to read a story at a local library, day care or nursery. Volunteer at a local hospital to rock a baby or do a craft project with children there.

Altogether, we are a family, all children of God and let us participate in the angels' lives. Give them information to absorb into their minds, give them affection, and give them hope. Perhaps in return you'll gain new, wonderful friendships and perhaps, best of all, those smiles and hugs that radiate pure love from their hearts.

They are our youth, our angels, and our future.
