One of the largest expenses that you usually encounter when planning a child's birthday party is where you have it. You can cut out a big expense by having the party at home or at a relatives house that has more room. They have to be willing to let you have the party there.
Keep the guest list and decorations to a minimum. The more people that you invite the more you're going to spend. Decorations can be reduced, a single helium balloon with Happy Birthday on it will do the trick. Then you can buy a pack of regular balloons and a couple rolls of streamer to decorate the house. It's rather inexpensive and should fit into even the tightest of budgets. You can also buy coordinated cups, plates and napkins rather inexpensively at the local discount store. Just make sure they match the decorations.
Cake and ice cream are required at a child's birthday party. Buy a gallon or half gallon of ice cream depending on the number of guest. You could make it yourself but few people know how anymore. The cake is something that you can bake and decorate yourself to maintain a budget for the birthday party. Everything you need can be found in the aisles of your local grocery store.
You simply buy a box of cake mix, frosting and some colored icing. Bake the cake the night before to allow it time to cool. Then frost and decorate the next morning. Making a square or rectangle single layer cake will make sure it goes far enough to feed everyone. The cake is usually the biggest expense next to the place to hold the party.
If you decide to have more snacks limit them to things such as potato chips, cut vegetables and dips. This will make your guests feel full while saving your wallet. Depending on the age of the guests you may need goody bags. The goody bags can be bought or made yourself. If you buy them be sure to get age appropriate bags.
It's easy to have a child's birthday party on a budget. You just have to remember that the party is for the child and not you.
