Children's Craft Ideas: Hannah Montana Customized Switch Plate Cover

Landra Lynn Jacobs
If your child is a Hannah Montana fanatic, this easy switch plate cover project is a perfect addition to their play room or bedroom! The addition of your child's name makes this craft extra special.

For this project, you will need:

- One white plastic switch plate cover

- Hannah Montana photo that has been laser copied onto paper

- Scissors

- Self healing mat

- Craft knife

- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium

- Shrink paper

- Bright purple or hot pink colored ink pad

- Typewriter style mounted rubber stamps

- Elmer's glue stick

- Popsicle stick

- Sponge brush

- Screwdriver

- Newspaper

Since the glues and inks in this project can get slightly messy, it is recommended that you first cover your work area with newspaper before starting this project.

Laser ink printed images tend to smear less. Thus, the most important part of this project is to have your Hannah Montana image laser copied onto paper. This can be done from a magazine image or other photo, and usually costs only a few dollars at your local copy and print center.

Lay the photo onto a self healing mat. Using the ruler as a guide, trim the paper so that it is the exact size as the switch plate cover. Cut out the cover holes in the paper, carefully using a craft knife.

Gently press the typewriter style mounted rubber stamps for your child's name into the bright purple or hot pink colored ink pad. Imprint the letters onto the shrink paper. Cut your child's name out and shrink the paper as recommended by the manufacturer. Cool completely.

Glue your child's name onto the Hannah Montana switch plate cover paper with an Elmer's glue stick. Let the glue dry completely.

Apply a generous amount of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium directly onto the plastic switch plate cover. Gently lay the Hannah Montana paper piece over the glue to adhere it to the switch plate cover. Smooth out any bubbles in the paper using your fingers or a popsicle stick. Allow the glue to dry several hours before applying seven to eight coats of acrylic finishing spray.

Dry overnight. Install the new switch plate cover using a screw driver.

TIP: This is an especially fun craft if your child has had a picture take with Miley Cyrus herself! Simply have the photo image laser printed, and continue the project as directed. This is the perfect room decoration for any child that loves Hannah Montana!
