Children's Creative Dancing as a Response to Children's Literature
Where Do Creativty to Dance Come from for Kids
I found some interesting sources in Health Reference Center Academic in Towson's Cook Library online academic search site. Theresa Purcell Cone wrote this article in March 2003. This was the most interesting article for various reasons. The article dealt with a study made with a number of first graders at a public elementary school on dance and literature and the kid's creative process in dealing with this. This study was created as a means to observe, describe and also analyze the creative processing in which children created dances in response to literature. The study used in its experiment twenty-four first grader divided in a group of three. Each group was given a piece of literature that of course pertained to their taste and intellectual abilities. They were then evaluated based on the dance they created. The study was interesting because each kid created its own dance based on his or her own creative processing. Therefore the dances were very unique and different.
This article was very informational for me for many reasons. It touched on the process in which kids created dance, which is very interesting. It teaches that the way kids dance not only comes from music videos and visual impacts but rather it could come from literature and imagination. Also I learned that in the study the kids created a different dance. This result shows that kids do not share the same creative processing. In my own study of dance this information is very essential because it shows the foundation from which all of us create dance without actually being in a dance class. It teaches about the natural and creative process in which a dance is created through many means. In this case, it deals with our creative process or imagination based on a literature.
My point of view on the article was very cordial. I agreed with its content and results and its frame in research. It was a little surprising to me because I have always held the stereotype that kids only learn to dance from the television and visual influences. This article was very crisp, precise and valuable. It was a well-written article. I chose this article because it was very interesting to me and it taught me something, which challenged my stereotypes on the way kids learn.
Dance is an art form that is influenced by many aspects in life. It is influenced by one's social environment, culture and with the new study the world of literature. This article deals with an important element in dance education, the creative process in creating dance. It was more than interesting to discover the foundation of dance, which included literature. As my stereotypical brain has been challenged in this world of advanced research, I hope to continue my education on where dance comes from and also appreciate the art an important one in life that is influenced not only by music and movies but also by imagination.
