Children's Health and the Shameful Democrats

A Disgusting Example of Political Gamesmanship

Robert Douglas
If you've seen any of the heart-wrenching political ads, sponsored by Democrats, it could bring a tear to your eyes and rage against the White House. The cute toddler, Abby, won't get health care because President Bush vetoed her health care.

This is another example of how the political game is played, in all of its despicable glory. It seems that the Truth is a victim, once again, and not little Abby. The Socialist Left, and some disgusting Repubs, have set up the White House for a lose-lose situation.

The Congress crafted legislation to expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program to income levels that are ridiculous. The sleazy pols are guilty of a major sin of omission: they won't tell you that families with income levels up to $80,000 per year would qualify.

Therein lies the crux of the issue. I'm no big fan of Bush, even though I've voted for him twice. But fair is fair, and his veto makes a lot of fiscal sense in this instance. As far as I can recall, it's his first presidential exercise of the veto power since he took office.

Why would the Dems do this? Think about it. They didn't care if he vetoed the bill. In fact, they hoped he would! Then they would place TV ads bashing the White House and anyone else who didn't support it as mean-spirited and taking health care away from children.

In other words, it was a first-class setup by them, all part of their constant bashing and negativity towards the "other side of the aisle". They know that Abby (most likely a fictional "needy child") will still get the health care she needs. That's not their motivation. Politics of destruction is the modus operandi.

Why would Republican congressmen join the Dems on this? One word: fear. They are too gutless to challenge the bill, as it would paint them as anti-children in their next election. It all comes down to election and re-election, nothing more. Forget about the good of the country or doing what's right. This is partisan politics at its worst.

The other despicable aspect of the bill is that it would give illegal aliens access to more health care. Again, all part of the Socialist agenda of the Dems and the Lib Left, not to mention pandering to Hispanic voters. Good of the country? Yeah, right. Hospitals have closed due to overwhelming expenditures on illegals, now the Dems want to make the situation even worse.

There's also a personal responsibility on the part of each American that is rapidly disappearing. A good example is the Medicaid mess. People say they can't afford health care insurance, so they apply for and get Medicaid assistance. Yet, they are living large, with a new SUV in the driveway, a large house, and all sorts of toys. But they can't afford to take their kids to the doctor or the dentist. I see it all the time in the area I live in and it makes me want to puke.

It's your taxes, people, which would fund this expansion. If your household income is $40,000 a year, do you want to subsidize another family that makes $80,000 a year? I think not.

Is it possible that we will ever see either of the political parties do the right thing for the country and not themselves? They seemingly forgot JFK's statement about "what you can do for your country".
