Children's Minds Are like Big Cameras Full of History

Jenny Heart
Many adults think children don't notice things as well as older children. This is far from the truth. Children notice things that parents and loved ones wouldn't think they would notice. Take a picture of your grandparent, and hand it to a toddler who knows this person well. Watch, and listen closely to their response. Cameras don't lie, and children don't either, about the things they hold dear to them.

Rylei the 2 year old I watch from time to time looked at a picture of her grandmother, and her children. She noticed that her grandmothers' husband whom she calls POP wasn't on it. She asked me where he was. This picture was taken before her grandparents had a group picture taken together. This cause Rylei to look confused and ask me this delicate question. I told her to look in her grandmother house and look at all the ones with pops on it.

Rylei is indeed small, but her memory is growing as fast as she is; bright and brilliant. Never underestimate the power of a child's mind. Don't talk around them about divorce or any other tragedy. They may not understand big words, but they do understand that angry voices make them sad. They know if someone talks angry about their mother or father.

Children and their memories should be held in safe keeping for whenever they want to talk about them. They shouldn't feel afraid when someone talks around them about someone they love or know. Children are too smart not to be taken seriously.

The times of their lives should be that of joy when thinking about all their memories they hold close to their heart. They do remember more than people think. Don't think because they are small, you can say anything around them; for they may just surprise you and run away.

Imagine yourself as a child in the middle of a heated argument. You may try to find a hiding place for safety and comfort. These types of arguments stay close to a child's heart. They may not understand it all, but they know something is very wrong.

If a picture of a loved one could make a child say why about anything, think about how an unkind word would make them feel. Children are our future. and need as many positive thoughts to brighten their thoughts with much creativity.

Children are made from the light of love. Be ready with your camera, and say cheese. They will surely want to come back often and see your smiling faces that filled them with comfort and joy.

I like Dina's comment. Children are like sponges and they grow up so fast!

They should enjoy their youth, have fun and not be burdened by what will happen as they mature.

They are the future. We should nurture them with care, make their lives better than what we have. Just like what our parents did. We ignore them, they would do likewise to us later. Invest in them and one cannot go wrong. Nice thoughts, Jenny - siva
