Children's Song "When I Exercise"

Tammy White
This is a children's song entitled "When I Exercise" and is sung to the tune of the popular children's song "The Wheels on the Bus." I have included actions at the end of each verse to be completed while singing the action words. It is a catchy song that children can easily remember and makes children want to move their body!

The head on my body goes back and forth,

back and forth,

back and forth.

The head on my body goes back and forth,

when I exercise. (turn your head to face left and right)

The shoulders on my body go Shrug, shrug, shrug;

Shrug, shrug, shrug;

Shrug, shrug, shrug.

The shoulders on my body go Shrug, shrug, shrug,

when I exercise. (move your shoulders up and down)

The arms on my body go Swing, swing, swing;

Swing, swing, swing;

Swing, swing, swing.

The arms on my body go Swing, swing, swing,

when I exercise. (swing your arms up and down)

The hands on my body go Clap, clap, clap;

Clap, clap, clap;

Clap, clap, clap.

The hands on my body go Clap, clap, clap,

when I exercise. (clap your hands to the beat)

The fingers on my body go Snap, snap, snap;

Snap, snap, snap;

Snap, snap, snap.

The fingers on my body go snap, snap, snap,

when I exercise. (snap your fingers to the beat)

The legs on my body go Kick, kick, kick;

Kick, kick, kick;

Kick, kick, kick.

The legs on my body go Kick, kick, kick;

when I exercise. (kick the air with your legs)

The knees on my body go Wobble, wobble, wobble;

Wobble, wobble, wobble;

Wobble, wobble, wobble.

The knees on my body go Wobble, wobble, wobble;

when I exercise. (move your knees apart and together)

The feet on my body go Stomp, stomp, stomp;

Stomp, stomp, stomp;

Stomp, stomp, stomp.

The feet on my body go Stomp, stomp, stomp;

when I exercise. (stomp your feet to the beat)

The stomach on my body goes Gurgle, gurgle gurgle;

Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle;

Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle.

The stomach on my body goes Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle;

it's time to have a snack! (rub your stomach in a circular motion)

Sing the last line of the last verse slowly and dramatically, dragging out the final word "snack" for full effect. Silly songs are a great way to have fun and be active with your kids. Happy stomping!

    Could you daughter be any cuter?! You really brought back some memories with this. When I took my youngest boy to swimming lessons we ended with this song while we did our last activities in the water. You're right, kids really respond to this tune...It gets them moving!
