Chilean Miner Mario Sepulveda: "I was with God and I was with the Devil. They Fought and God Won"

Spiritual Faith Sustains Chilean Miner Mario Sepulveda in the Pit of Hell

Mario Sepulveda believes that his time in the collapsed mine in Chile has been fruitful in spite of the terrible ordeal to him, the other miners and all their families and friends, according to the Mirror in the UK.

"I was with God and I was with the devil. They fought and God won," the miner told the press after he was rescued from his 69 day entrapment.

Sepulveda stated that he could not have survived his ordeal if he had not had a strong faith in God and a belief that the almighty would pull him--and the other miners--through the terrible ordeal they endured.

"I never thought for one minute God would not get me out of there," Mario Sepulveda confided.

The emotionally-charged miner also added later that, "I want you to continue treating me like Mario Antonio Sepulveda, a worker, a miner."

Mario is referring to his fellow miners lauding him as a potential television personality due to his creative antics down below. He doesn't want that title or that job, apparently, making it clear he has a greater respect and loyalty to the government of Chile.

"I'm really proud of the government that we have and the people who work for this government. I'm also very proud of all the workers."

Mario Sepulveda also told an eager audience of rescue personnel and the press that, "I will continue working because this is my faith."

His wife, Elvira, said her husband is not a shy man and calls it like he sees it, unabashedly expressing his emotions to anyone at anytime, "He's a braveheart. He is never ashamed to say anything to anyone."

While Mario and his wife both expressed concerns about mining, with her stating Mario "never trusted that mine," it didn't stop her exuberant husband from expressing what he does love in spite of his near-death experience, "Say Chi, say Le, Chi chi chi, Le le le, Chile. Long life Chile. I adore Chile with all my heart." And Mario Sepulveda and his fellow rescued Chilean miners all likely do today more than ever before.
