The agreement was signed in Islamabad two years back in the framework of Shanghai Cooperation Organization where Pakistan is aspiring to elevate its status from an observer to a full member.

While briefing Standing Committee of National People's Congress, Chinese vice-minister for foreign affairs had termed agreement necessary saying that the lives of Pakistanis and Chinese living there were being threatened by the evil forces.

Other countries China has signed such agreements with are: Kyrgyzia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Chinese law enforcing agencies and special services held joint anti-terrorism exercise with the later from August 22 to 24.

China is cooperating with Pakistan to modernize its army, navy and air forces and has shown interest in developing communication infrastructure in Balochistan where the killing of a veteran politician Akbar Bugti by security forces has sparked violent protest with rebellious undertones. The Asian giant has also promised its neighbor nuclear reactors to cater to its growing energy needs.

It is very strange to see that this story has come out two years after its publication. Whichever countyry Pakistani political leaders have visited, the host country always talked of cooperation against terrorism which speaks volumes about areas of Pakistan harboring extremist elements.
