The Chinese strongly believes in heaven and hell. They also believe in ghosts and God. The main religion in China is Buddhism. Buddhism tells them that if they live a good life now they can reincarnate into a wealthier and better life the second time around. If they are evil in this lifetime, they will reincarnate into a poor family and they will suffer according to how evil they were in their previous life. This whole idea of karma led the Chinese to believe that you're cursed by God if you're disable, terminally ill or poor. Superstition is just a set of personal beliefs and has no proof.
The Chinese strongly believes in witch doctors and they think that witch doctors can cure some illness. Witch doctors cure his patients by performing religious chantings and rituals to chase the bad force or soul away. It's believed that if you're ill, you have been attacked by a dark force or soul and that's why you would need a witch doctor. There have been many interesting story in China with regarding to dark forces making your life miserable. This is why the Chinese would wear red and decorate their homes with many bright colors to push away the dark force. In every single situation they would follow the rules of light and darkness and would try to bring forth the brighter side and not the darker side.
The way that the Chinese build their houses and businesses and decorate their rooms is shaped by superstition. They utilize good Feng Shui to make their business more booming and their homes more peaceful. Certain cakes and food is required for New Years as a sign of good luck. Bright yellow and red flowers are symbols of good luck also. The night time is not a good time because they believe that ghosts and darker forces come out at night and not during the day. The day is consider to have too much light and energy for ghosts and darker forces. The Chinese often carry a piece of good luck charm with them everywhere. They also hung good charms all over their houses.
