Buddhism tells them that if they live a good life now they can reincarnate into a wealthier and better life the second time around. If they are evil in this lifetime, they will reincarnate into a poor family and they will suffer according to how evil they were in their previous life. This whole idea of karma led the Chinese to believe that you're cursed by God if you're disable, terminally ill or poor. Superstition is just a set of personal beliefs and has no proof.
