The year 4708 begins on February 14th, 2010 and Washington, DC will welcome the Year of the Tiger with grand celebration. America's capital boasts one of the best Chinese New Year parades in America.

The Chinese New Year festival starts with the New Moon which falls on Valentine's Day this year but no need to choose between a romantic Valentine's Day dinner and the excitement of Chinese New Year because the Lunar New Year celebration is stretched out over 15 days.

Asian Community Service Center celebrates Chinese New Year with a Festival at Luther Jackson Middle School in Falls Church, VA.
This is a great event for kids to learn a little bit about the games, language and food of China. It is a low stress, entertaining event not to far away from DC with parking available. The Festival runs from 10am-7pm at 3020 Gallows Road. Get informatioon at www.chinesenewyearfestival.org

Chinese New Year Parade and Festival in Washington, DC, Chinatown

Traditional Chinese Dragon Dance, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, a Giant Firecracker, art and performances are all part of the festivities. Take the metro into Chinatown to save trouble parking.

The parade route is on H Street, NW between 6th and 8th Streets. The full route is available from the Chinatown Community Cultural Center.

The festival goes from noon-5pm with the Giant Firecracker being lit at 3:45pm. More info at www.chinatownchamber.us

National Geographic Museum
An event was scheduled for February 6th but was canceled due to historic snow. Check theNational Geographic Museum for possible information about a reschedule.
