Chisos Mining Company Motel - Easter Egg Valley Review

The BEST Place to Stay in Terlingua

The Chisos Mining Company - Easter Egg Valley Motel in Terlingua, Texas is the most charming hostelry in which I have sojourned. While there are just plain rooms available, the establishment takes it's name from the robin's egg blue of the main building; the bubblegum pink, apple green, baby blue, sunflower yellow, turquoise, dazzling white, native stone and hyacinth lavender cabins available for a night or a fortnight.

The cabins can accommodate five to eight guests as they contain an assortment of double and single beds; quite comfortable beds that come at a reasonable price. The cabins are furnished with a small kitchenette. It not only has a full sized [if small refrigerator], but an "apartment" sized gas stove, a microwave and a coffeemaker. The proprietors also furnish dishes, cooking and eating utensils. They even provide dish soap and clean-up towels!

"WHAT? No dishwasher?" you ask. This is the desert, water is a precious commodity. Dishwashers are frivolous and waste water. Cope with it. Each cabin also has a picnic table and a small grill outside for alfresco dining.

There are no phones in the cabins. There is also no on-site wi-fi, or any other Internet connection AT the Motel proper. However, next door is Kathy's Kosmic Kowgirl Kafe. SHE has wi-fi. What she doesn't have is bathrooms. Her customers are allowed to use the restrooms at the office of Easter Egg Valley. Easter Egg Valley guests are allowed to go sit on Kathy's patio and use her wi-fi. That's the sort of friendly relationship a lot of business owners enjoy here in Terlingua. In fact, while I was there Kathy's wasn't open for business, but her Internet access was still available.

Some of the cabins DO have a television. But I've never seen the need for TeeVee whilst on a vacation to relax and unwind, myownself. But IF you MUST watch, you can request that kind of cabin for a small extra charge.

A Small Cabin with two double beds and one single bed will cost $500 for a six-night stay. That includes tax! Rates are subject to change by Season, so check with the management for exact cost of your planned stay. If you factor in the amount of money you can save by eating at least one meal in your room every day...this is one of the most economical vacations in the Big Bend area.
