Chlorox Ultimate Care Premium Bleach

Lchaim
Not long ago I tried the new Chlorox Ultimate Care bleach by performing a a very unscientific scientific test Let me give some background. Well, I didn't notice that this product is for bleachable fabrics. We honestly don't use regular Chlorox bleach in our wash because we mix our whites with off-whites, whites that have some printing and then we use a product like Chlorox 2 which is safe for colored fabrics.

So, what's a guy to do in a situation like this? Make up a fake review? Not me. nuh-uh. I took two, yes two, brand-new-never-ever-before-used white t-shirts down to my kitchen.

The Plan
1) I would put a few different stains on the shirts. Identical stains on the left side and right side of each shirt.
2) The first shirt (otherwise called Shirt #1) would be washed without any treatment for the first washing.
3) The second shirt (otherwise called Shirt #2)would have the stains on the left side pre-treated with the Chlorox Ultimate Care.
4) Shirt #2 would be also be washed with the Chlorox Ultimate Care added to the water.
5) Shirt #1 would then be washed again and put in the wash with shirt #2 and Chlorox Ultimate Care.
6) The shirts would be washed with warm water and warm water rinse. They would NOT be dried between washings.

The Stains
A Major League Sacrifice!
Well, there was some coffee in the coffee pot. Talk about a major league sacrifice! My precious coffee being poured on a shirt for the benefit of science!

Barukh attah Adonai eloheinu melekh ha-olam borei peri hagafen (10 points if you know what that means!)
Ah Yes!!! A finely aged two year old open bottle of Manischewitz wine which was sitting in the back of the fridge!!! Let's pour some of that on the shirt.

♫ Take me out to the ball game!!! ♫
What else other than ketchup and mustard???? I rubbed it in real good!

Oh wow man! This is great grass!
Well, in my yard it's more weeds than grass. I rubbed the shirts in the grass/weeds out in the yard as if I got tackled a few times playing football.

RESULTS
I have to say I was quite disappointed.

I couldn't believe the wine, coffee, and ketchup stains came out in Shirt #1 washed with only with the Tide HE detergent in warm water. The mustard and grass stains were lightened but were still there.

Very surprising on Shirt #2. The left side was PRE-TREATED with the Chlorox Ultimate care and using this product in the wash water as well, the left and right side of the shirt came out exactly the same! Pre-treating didn't seem to make any difference. The grass stains and mustard looked exactly like shirt #1!! Wow! Major disappointment!

Now, onto the next wash. Pre-treat the mustard stains AGAIN on Shirt #2. This will make the 2nd pre-treating. This time the mustard stains came out, but the grass stains were still there. Also, mustard is an extremely difficult stain to get out because of the turmeric which I understand bonds very well to fabrics like cotton.

Again, this was an unscientific test. Perhaps with longer use, the grass stains would have come out eventually with using the Chlorox Ultimate Care on a regular basis, but then why should I have to wash something several times? After all the mustard did come out but the grass stains remained. Puzzling!

I don't think we'll buy this product in the future. As I explained we use Chlorox 2 with the whites so we don't have to worry about bleeding of colors. Now, The Chlorox Company does say that this can be used on some colored fabrics but you need to apply one drop to a hidden area. I'm sorry, that's too much trouble to do with each colored item we have!!! This also should not be used on silk, leather (now WHO would put LEATHER in the washing machine), mohair, wool, or spandex.

I do like that this can be poured directly onto white bleachable fabrics and the cap is very handy. But I also think this is too expensive (The suggested retail price is 30 oz. size at $1.99 and a 90 oz. bottle for $4.29).
