Start Reiki flowing. Visualize the power symbol before a treatment, intending that your Reiki start flowing. You can also use it at any time to focus the energy in a particular area, or strengthen the Reiki during a treatment.
Promote physical healing and reduce pain. Cho ku rei is often called the physical healing symbol, because many practitioners use it intending that it reduce the recipient's physical pain. It never causes pain. If it is used where there is no pain, it will simply do something else that is needed. Reiki is an intelligent energy. It goes where it is directed, but also where it is needed most.
Seal and stabilize energy at the end of a Reiki session. This symbol works well for grounding and is a good way to imagine the Reiki staying with someone at the end of a treatment.
Cleanse anything from a room, to a person, etc. The power symbol removes negative energies, because they don't serve people's highest good. Reiki can do no harm, so the cho ku rei removes everything you don't need, as long as you intend to let it go.
Manifest things you desire. This will only bring you things that are in accordance with your higher purpose, or highest good. It will not bring you things that don't serve you well. If you don't get what you want using the cho ku rei, you're probably trying to manifest something that isn't right for you at this time.
Charge and empower crystals. You can also use the cho ku rei to charge crystals with Reiki. Draw the symbol over the crystal, and intend that it become charged, or filled with Reiki. You can then use that crystal to empower others, rather than a generator crystal. This is a helpful practice if you want to send Reiki to multiple people, whether in person or via distance. Just charge a crystal for each person you want to send to, and let them be, intending that Reiki flow to them as long as it is needed.
Charge food and water with Reiki before consuming. This is great when you're traveling and don't know where the food has been or who prepared it. But it's also good to do when at home. Charging whatever you eat and drink with Reiki, especially the water you drink, will insure that the food and drink be used for your highest good. This promotes increased energy, vitality, and healing.
Protect you whenever you feel protection is needed. Finally, you can use the cho ku rei as a protection symbol. Although protection isn't necessary during a Reiki treatment, you may feel threatened at other times. If you do, just visualize the cho ku rei on all sides of you, and intend that it protects you from all harmful energy and things that emit it.
You can probably think of many other uses for the Reiki power symbol. There is no wrong way to use any Reiki symbol! So try it out on everything, and see what works for you.
