Choceur Milk Chocolate with Almonds Bar: Sinful, Delicious, Dirt Cheap

Miss Fortune
It isn't often that I hit Aldi's; there is only one location in my area and it is a nightmare to get to. When I am in the area I always stop because you never know what deals and steals you are going to come across. That's how I came to discover Choceur Milk Chocolate. Imported from Austria it is an inexpensive but delicious brick style chocolate that can be used for candy making but is smooth and silky enough for snacking. The generously sized 5.29 ounce bars were only $1.39 and were available in regular milk chocolate, almond and a few fruit combinations. Being a huge Hershey chocolate fanatic I was curious to see how this "imported chocolate" matched up to one made a stones throw from where I live. Considering the price of it and that it was something I'd never heard of before I didn't have the highest expectations for this but I was pleasantly surprised.

The mouthfeel is smooth; the almonds are roasted so there is a smoky taste to them but nothing that competes with the taste of the chocolate. The bar is scored into blocks so it is easy to break off the pieces and the serving suggestion of four blocks is more than enough to satisfy your craving for something sweet. A serving contains 240 calories, 16 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates and 4 grams of protein. While probably not the greatest thing in the world to snack on, if you stick with the serving suggestion it will be enough to quell a chocolate craving. The bars are marked with a "best by" date but I have used them after that date if I have them in the freezer.

This is one of the many types of chocolate that I use when I am working with candy molds. It has a rich smooth taste to it and is an inexpensive way to fill molds once details have been painted into them with colored chocolate. Even when eaten out of the wrapper, the Choceur chocolate taste like a top shelf treat without the huge price. It melts evenly and can be grated to use as a topping on ice cream. For the price you would be hard priced to find an imported chocolate that has an exceptional taste so the next time you hit an Aldi market be sure to look for these.

We have an Aldi's fairly close. I have the feeling I'm going to be making a run there before the day is over -- and it's all your fault!
