Chocobo Tales Walkthrough Part 2: Beating the Cactuar with Our Adamantoise

Anonymous
In the previous part, we had Bebuzzu suck the life out of the Chocobo farm, and we have figured out how to slowly restore it. Now we will get into the meat of the game. Well, the bite-sized minigames, anyway.

Remember that book you were sucked into? It's none other than the book Shirma was reading: The Adamantoise and the Cactuar. This book happens to be Vol. 1 Race to the Top. You will see the same characters in different settings in different volumes. In this volume, you will race against the nimble Cactuar up a mountain, like in the fable The Tortoise and the Hare. But first, it's Story Time.

Tap on the "Story Time" panel to view the prologue of the story. You can follow the directions on screen to control the scrolling of the text. You can also skip through the text by tapping on the SKIP icon located at the lower-right corner of the screen. Once you have gone through the story, it's time to continue with creating your own part of the story: the Trial Mode.

Select the "Trial Mode" panel. The text box has two pages of text. To proceed through it, tap the downward-pointing arrow. Once you have gone through that, the game will allow you to start. In this game, you ride on an Adamantoise, which looks unsurprisingly like a tortoise. It will always move forward on its own, but you can control its direction by holding down the stylus on the screen. You will see a blue circle with a double-tipped arrow. One tip points clockwise around the Adamantoise's shell and the other tip points counterclockwise. Choose the direction of rotation you would like the Adamantoise to go and then move the stylus in that direction.

This race is filled with a little danger: boulders are tumbling down from the mountain. If the Adamantoise is moving and collides with a boulder, he will bounce away from the boulder and won't move for a few moments. (Obviously, this costs time.) But if you lift the stylus away from the touch screen, the Adamantoise's body will go into its shell. You won't be able to move, but if a boulder hits you, you won't bounce back.

Now it's time to race. But as the name "Trial Mode" suggests, you're racing against time. The Cactuar decides to sleep through the entire race, so you won't be competing against him! Go up the hill within 5 minutes to complete your first trial, which is trivial to do, as you should be able to complete it in under a minute.

We will close this story with an epilogue in the next part.
