Chocobo Tales Walkthrough Part 5: Leapin' on Leaves Minigame

Take Better Control of Your Chocobo in the Leapin' on Leaves Minigame

Anonymous
In the previous part of this Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales walkthrough, we have found a way to beat the Bomberwall minigame in under sixteen seconds. Now we will learn how to successfully beat the early levels of the next minigame: Leapin' on Leaves.

Nearby the stone wall is a new picture book: Titan and the Beanstalk (Vol. 1 Leapin' on Leaves). Predictably, the stories in this book is based on the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk. Proceed through Story Time, and then move onto Battle Mode. The new magnifying glass icon will let you check out what you need to achieve in a minigame to unlock various parts of the game (like epilogues). But for now, let's beat Lv. 1 of Battle Mode.

In this minigame, your objective is to get to the top of the beanstalk. Your Chocobo starts by bouncing on some leaves. But he keeps floating down. To continue his ascent, you draw your own leaves, which act like trampolines when the Chocobo lands on them. The length of the leaf determines the height at which the Chocobo jumps. The shorter the leaf, the higher he jumps. Make a leaf that's too long, and the Chocobo will simply break it. The angle of the leaf determines the direction the Chocobo jumps. This is used to avoid the Bombs that guard the beanstalk. (If your Chocobo collides with a Bomb, then he will spiral downward and won't be able to land on any leaves for a moment.)

I have two tips for you to ascend to the top quickly. First, you have to know the locations of the Bombs. They appear in the following order: one stationary at the left edge of the screen, one stationary at the right edge, one stationary at the left edge, one stationary at the right edge, one stationary at the left edge, one moving from side to side, and two at both edges of the screen. And second, draw leaves that are about a fourth to a third of the width of your Nintendo DS's touch screen. That way, the Chocobo is more likely to jump straight up when you want it to do so. (Drawing shorter leaves will make the Chocobo more prone to bouncing back and forth across the screen.)

You have plenty of time to beat the one Jailbird in this game. Beat it to unlock a new epilogue (1. Magic Beans). This will make the bean sprout grow to a long and climbable beanstalk. Should you decide to climb it right now, you will notice a blocked cave entrance. How do we take care of this? Let's stay and complete Lv. 2 of Battle Mode in this minigame instead. This time, you have three Jailbirds, but you still have plenty of time to beat them. Complete this level to unlock a new epilogue (2. Bombs Away). Now a Bomb will conveniently blow up the wall blocking the cave entrance.

You may want to rush into the cave, but there's something in this volcano that's worth checking out. We'll find out what it is in the next part of this walkthrough.
