Chocobo Tales Walkthrough Part 6: Cliffhanger Microgame and Behemoth Pop-Up Duel
Get the Gold Star in the Cliffhanger Microgame and Beat Behemoth with Only One Card in Our First Pop-Up Duel
From the Leapin' on Leaves picture book, move south and then west to the next screen. Keep going west until you see the beanstalk, and then head east. Keep moving east across the river of lava and then head north until you see an Adamantoise in its shell. Check it out to play the microgame Cliffhanger. In this game, an Adamantoise will slide down a sloped cliff. You can command it to hit the brakes at any moment by touching him with your stylus. But the goal is to have him stop as close to the edge of the cliff without him falling over the edge. The key insight to note here is that his braking distance is always the same. Thus, the point at which we touch the Adamantoise is also the same. The marker I use to determine such a point is to wait until the "20 m" sign has just disappeared from the left edge of the screen. I also hover the stylus over the Adamantoise's shell to reduce the time it takes to actually tap the shell. Doing these things gave me a record of 0.32 meters, which is good enough for a Gold star.
You will be rewarded well for your efforts. Stop the Adamantoise within 10 meters of the cliff to receive the pop-up card 025 Adamantoise - Turtle Power. Stop him within 2 meters to receive the pop-up card 026 Adamantoise - Turtle Power+. These cards will come in handy later.
Now return to the top of the beanstalk. Head west toward the opened cave entrance. Shirma interrupts you and simply declares that she will help you find more picture books. Good for her. Move north to meet the Behemoth. His grammar may be bad, but he makes up for it in brute strength. He won't let you pass unless you duel him--with cards. What does this mean? Go back outside to meet a masked moogle who names himself Dueler X. Shirma recognizes him as Mog, but we will call this moogle Dueler X whenever he has his mask on. Anyway, Dueler X will give you three cards: 114 Goblin - Slap, 116 Goblin - Rage, and 117 Goblin - Shout. You will also receive a Starter Deck, which uses only these cards. Now you can learn more about Pop-Up Duels with Dueler X or even ask for a Pop-Up Duel with him. I will discuss any crucial aspect about Pop-Up Dueling as the need arises in this walkthrough.
Now it's time to settle things the Yu-Gi-Oh way--with the Pop-Up Duel. Head back inside the cave and accept a Pop-Up Duel against the Behemoth. To beat him, all you need to use is Goblin - Rage. This works, because all the cards that Behemoth holds have attack icons in either the red or yellow slots. Since we only have a three-card deck, we will always be able to select the Goblin - Rage card, which can guard against red or yellow attacks and counter with 1 HP (hit point) of damage directly to the Behemoth. Eventually, a winner is you! Enjoy your guaranteed victory and your reward for beating him: the pop-up card 091 Iron Giant - Fist.
In the next part, we will take a break and play the microgame Blazing Blocks.
