Chocobo Tales Walkthrough Part 7: Blazing Blocks Microgame
Gather Two Ifrit Pop-up Cards with the Blazing Blocks Microgame
Now that we have beaten the Behemoth, circle around the stairs and go outside. Dueler X makes a rather unsurprising appearance. He gives a trainer deck. Now you can use any cards that you have in your possession. He has added new tutorials to his Tutorials section, so check them out. We'll figure out how to build a good deck later. For now, move east until you see an arcade machine.
This machine will let you play the microgame Blazing Blocks, which is like a fusion of Bombliss (a variant of Tetris) and Sega's Columns. In this game, you have a grid of Bombs, rocks, and crystals. You destroy the rocks by touching them with your stylus. Any objects above the rocks will fall down by one grid cell. Any time you align three Bombs vertically or horizontally, each Bomb will blow up the eight cells surrounding it. Any other Bomb caught in the explosion will also explode. If you clear all of the crystals within a puzzle, you gain a point. But if you leave behind crystals when no more moves are possible or you take too long solving a puzzle, you restart the puzzle. You have 90 seconds to complete as many puzzles as you can.
With a little trial and error and some intuition, you can get the 20 points needed to earn a Gold star. Whenever you fail to destroy a crystal, see if there are any rocks below it when the puzzle restarts. Perhaps a Bomb couldn't reach it. You can also try different ways to start a chain of explosions or involve a Bomb that you might have left out of the chain. Keep repeating this game while the solutions to difficult puzzles are fresh in your memory (puzzles that you've already played are likely to reappear over just a few games). As for your rewards, if you earn at least 8 points, you will receive the pop-up card 001 Ifrit - Fireblast. And if you earn at least 20 points, you will receive the pop-up card 002 Ifrit - Fireblast+.
After you are done with this game, head west, and on the next screen, move north. The camera will pan to the left to show you a sealed card. Then it will move to the right to show you another picture book. Up ahead is a bridge, but Irma appears. Watch as she uses her black crystal to create a fire barrier around the bridge and another one around the picture book. But Croma jumps in and uses his ice magic to get rid of the flames around the book. Now you have control of your Chocobo again. Go to the sealed card to rescue Gelp, who is obsessed with the snake-like monster Lamia. Now move onto the new picture book.
What's inside? We'll find out in the next part.
