Chocobo Tales Walkthrough Part 8: The Ugly Chocoling Minigames
Learn How to Play the Minigames Find that Fiery Chocobo and Flaming Frenzy
The new picture book is The Ugly Chocoling, which is obviously based on the fairy tale The Ugly Duckling. The minigame in this volume of the book is Find That Fiery Chocobo. Check out the story, and then start the game. In this game, you drag a magnifying glass with your stylus on your Nintendo DS touch screen. At the top screen, you have a sniper scope's view of a pack of Chocobos. Your job is to place the Chocobo that's on fire in the center of your scope. Once you find him, you gain a point, and he moves to a random point on the map. Continue finding him to gain more points. All you need for now is to get 3 points in 60 seconds, which is trivial.
The game gives more rewards for getting 8, 10, and 12 points. So if you want these rewards, you'll need to have some strategy. I would start finding the fiery Chocobo at one corner of the screen and then zig-zag towards the other side. This way, I'm less likely to backtrack in case I find the fiery Chocobo. You can get away with moving the stylus quickly, because your eyes can pick up the bright orange fire easily. Also, remember that the Chocobo moves to some random spot, so if you're lucky, you'll spot his trail of fire right on your view. So be patient, and eventually, you'll be able to get at least 12 points.
Once you get 3 points, you've unlocked Battle Mode. To break the fire barrier on the bridge, you need to beat Lv. 3. In Battle Mode, you just have to find the fiery Chocobo before your opponents do. Earn 3 points to win the battle. Just use the strategy above, and you should be able to beat this level easily. After you win this battle, you unlock Lv. 4 of this book and a new epilogue (1. Family Ties). Rain will pour down at the crater and make the fire barrier on the bridge disappear. Now proceed up the bridge to get to the summit of the mountain, where you see a dimmed out crystal. Perhaps we can revive it. Check out the nearby picture book.
It's volume 2 of The Ugly Chocoling, Flaming Frenzy. In this game, the spring water in the middle of the screen turns the pillars of flame that the fiery Chocobo produces into gold coins. Control the Chocobo as you would in the overworld map. If you step inside the spring water, you are enveloped by a bubble shield. Use it to take out a flame pillar to turn it into a coin. Collect as many coins as you can to win this battle. You and your opponents can lose a coin by either running into a flame pillar or being rolled into by another Chocobo. To do a roll attack, tap on the touch screen twice.
Now, how do we win? That's for another time.
