Chocolart Candy Making Kit - Product Review

Lisa Riggs
Santa Claus was very good to my children this year. One of the gifts that was under the tree Christmas morning was Chocolart Candy Making Kit. My daughter had recently shared that her friend had received this chocolate treat making kit for her birthday and that they had used it on a play date. Lucky for her, Santa was listening and still loading his sleigh.

The front of the box definitely makes this product appear to be a winner. Chocolate treats on sticks and festive boxes and colored foil adorn the cover. The packaging is bright and colorful and certainly gives this impression that this product is a fun holiday gift. A little elf whispered in my ear that this kit was only five dollars. Definitely an affordable price for budget shoppers like myself.

Included in this candy kit are a bag of chocolate drops to create the treats, a mold tray containing twelve different shapes, lollipop sticks, gift boxes, sheets of colored foil and an easy to follow instruction booklet. After opening the box and unloading the contents, this product definitely seemed as though it gave you plenty of goodies for the low price.

Creating the chocolate lollipops was very easy. After emptying the bag of chocolates into a small pan, a larger pan was filled with water. The larger pan gets filled with water and the smaller one containing the chocolate is laid inside of it. A double boiler method is used to melt the chocolate. Stirring the chocolate every few minutes is essential to prevent sticking. It is then poured into the desired molds to make the sweet treats. After one layer of chocolate is poured, the stick is inserted and more chocolate is poured on top. The mold tray is then placed in the refrigerator to set the candy pops.

After starting to pour the melted chocolate into the molds, I realized there was not nearly enough of it to make the six pops that were advertised on the box. The kit contains only enough drops to make three treats, with a bit left over. I found this to be a bit disappointing. Thankfully it did not bother my daughter in the least. She was very content with her three chocolate lollipops.

After chilling in the refrigerator for about an hour, the treats were ready to be eaten. For such a low price, the chocolate contained in this kit was truly delicious. I was a bit pleasantly surprised at how tasty the pops were. Both of my daughters and myself enjoyed a sweet dessert to our holiday dinner.

Overall I would rate Chocolart Candy Making Kit three and a half stars out of five. The price was low and the directions were very simple. The molds were very work with and the chocolate was quite tasty. However, I could certainly see how children would be disappointed that only three treats can actually be made with this kit. It makes the gift boxes and colored foil a bit of a waste. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to have a bit of fun in the kitchen with a budding candy maker, with the knowledge that only half of the advertised treats can actually be produced.

I saw this on the shelves this year ~ sounds like a fun kid-friendly project to do. Certainly peculiar that the makers didn't include enough chocolate to make the shown project.
