The Chocolatier games so far have taken place in quaint historical settings. Your character travels the globe looking for ingredients, and new recipes. Your travels will take you to far-off locations, from Africa to Asia. Mini goals along the way include filling special orders for important customers, and fetching certain recipes. Along the way, a story line develops, and if you complete all of the tasks and discover all of the recipes, the story will reach its happy conclusion.
To some fans, the historic settings are part of Chocolatier's charm. However, according to chatter in the PlayFirst forums, in August the game developers had a poll on their website to see if fans would be interested in a Chocolatier 3 set in the modern day. Many of the fans who posted in the forums said that they would rather that Chocolatier 3 follow the historical path through time. Some suggested that being set during WWII could make for some interesting game play. Others thought that a modern or even futuristic setting would also be fun.
It has been awhile since I got the exciting announcement that Chocolatier 2: Secret Ingredients, was available. I was impressed by the improvements and changes in game play. PlayFirst did not just change the story, but added more challenging game play, more recipes to discover, and more. The update was worth it, and I expect Chocolatier 3 to be worth it too!
In the meantime, fans of Chocolatier 1 and 2 may also enjoy the various Tradewinds games. There are several releases of Tradewinds, and they follow a similar formula to the Chocolatier games. The game follows a story line that progresses as you complete mini missions. Other fun games are Westward and Westward II. In these, the game play is more active, and unlike Chocolatier, it is not turn based. And then of course, while you wait for Chocolatier 3 to be released, if you have not yet played Chocolatier 1 and Chocolatier 2, check them out now! Even if you have played them, replay them!

Post a CommentWell, the official title now seems to be "Chocolatier 3: Decadence by Design". I have downloaded a beta version from here: http://www.downturk.info/games/tycoon/16248-chocolatier-decadence-by-design-beta.html
It is set post WWII so you have to help a struggling company get back on its feet.
